Bahrain International Garden Show 2016 Opens

Manama, Feb 24 : Wife of HM the King, President of the Supreme Council of Women, also Chairperson of the Advisory Board of the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector, HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, today opened Bahrain International Garden Show 2016, held under the patronage of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

HRH Princess Sabeeka stressed the importance of supporting and diversifying investments in the agricultural sector for the promotion of the national economy. She highlighted HM the King’s keenness and directives on achieving food security.

She noted that the researches made by the National Initiative have asserted that Bahrain can be a successful agricultural environment to contribute to achieving social, environmental and economic progress. She commended the initiatives that have strengthened the work of the National Initiative since its inception in 2010.

HRH the Princess toured around the show sections to closely learn about the products exhibited. She visited the main pavilion and awarded the winners of the annual contest of Bahrain Gardens Club.

The 2016 show focuses on the dissemination of agricultural concepts and skills to grow healthy and fruitful trees, comprising land preparation, irrigation, fertilization, pruning, pest control, palm tree care operations, methods of transferring and planting cuttings.

More than 155 exhibitors are taking part in the 2016 show being organized by the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector, in collaboration with Tamkeen and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

Companies from various countries are taking part, including Italy, the Netherlands, Greece, Singapore, Japan, Canada, Thailand, China, Uganda, Nigeria, Kenya, Russia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Morocco, Sudan and Jordan.
