National Initiative for Agricultural Development

What is the Initiative?

imageThe National Initiative for Agricultural Development was launched by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa in March 2010. Her Royal Highness chairs the consultative council for the new initiative. She personally oversees the progress of all activities along with a distinguished group of officials from the government and private sectors including chief executive officers of leading financial and industrial companies in the Kingdom of Bahrain who have graciously committed their time and resources as part of their social responsibility towards their country.

The initiative focuses mainly on protecting and developing the agricultural industry in Bahrain and creating a balance between agricultural and constructional lands, with the belief that such measures are vital for the overall health of the population and the future of food security. Bahrain has to move towards achieving some level of self-sufficiency that will naturally lead to the increase of the contribution of the agricultural sector to the gross domestic product.

Vision

To unify all efforts to enhance the agricultural industry in Bahrain so that it can contribute to the advancement of the country economically, socially and environmentally.

Mission

To work towards the development of the agricultural industry in cooperation with all stakeholders through planning, execution, follow-up, and evaluation. The aim is to revolutionize the sector through maintaining agricultural lands, introducing the latest technologies, proposing regulations, training the work force, creating job opportunities and spreading awareness in general. This comes as part of Bahrain’s comprehensive economic vision 2030.
